The Crescent Classic 4-on-4 Ice Hockey Tournament  

Underage Waiver Form

Playing rules will be standard within the game of hockey (Please refer to ASHL Rulebook - Adult Safe Hockey League)
The following are exceptions to the standard rules:

RULES AND REGULATIONS  

Modified Playing Rules  

  1. PLEASE NOTE Standard CSA Approved hockey equipment (helmet, gloves, shin guards, elbow pads) is required. (Pants, shoulder pads and face guard are highly recommended)  
    Players under-18 must wear full set of equipment, including face guard. 
  2. NEW - Game Length:  Games will consist of 1 x 16-minute period (1st 8-minutes - running time - Last-8 minutes - stop time), with a two-minute warm-up to start. A Final - if possible - 2 x 12 minute stop time periods.
    1. The warm-up will start as soon as the Zamboni doors close, or as soon as the previous game’s teams have left the ice. Warm-ups should be on the opposite side of the ice from team's bench.
    2. Time-Outs: In the last minute of play of a 1-goal game, the losing team has 1 x 20-second time-out available at a stoppage in play.
    3. Lateness: Teams not ready to begin their game, when the referee blows their whistle for the opening face-off, will be given a Delay of Game Minor Penalty.
  3. Line changes: All line changes should be completed on the fly.  
  4. Icing: Will only occur if puck is shot from behind the defensive blue line.
  5. Penalties 
    1. Minor Penalty - 2 minutes served
      For example: holding, hooking, interferance, tripping, delay of game, contact with the goalie, unsportsmanlike conduct etc.  
    2. Double Minor Penalty – 4 minutes served
      For example: body contact, roughing (head-contact) and all stick fouls: slashing, cross-checking, high-sticking, etc.
    3. Major Penalty - 5 minutes served + Game Misconduct + Suspension and/or Fine
    4. Misconduct Penalty - 10 minutes served - Players who demonstrate unsportsmanlike or potentially dangerous behaviour.
    5. Penalty Shot - at the Referee's discretion on clear scoring chances
    6. When a penalty or infraction occurs: 
      1. The game official (referee) will signal the timekeeper to stop the clock.
      2. The penalty time will be put on the scoreboard and time will resume.  
      3. Offending player must hurry to the penalty box, any delay or arguing will result in an additional Delay of Game penalty. 
      4. Face-off in the offensive zone.
    7. Concurrent Penalties: A team assessed a 2nd penalty, while the 1st penalty is being served, will result in a 5 on 3 Powerplay. Play will return to 4 on 3 once the first penalty is served, and a stoppage in play has occured.
    8. Co-incidental penalties: Both players will be sent off the ice. Teams will continue to play 4 on 4. Face-off in the approriate zone. Players will leave the penalty box after the whistle following their penalty.  
    9. Goalies must handle the puck if they decide to make a play on it. They are NOT permitted to freeze the puck OUTSIDE the crease area. If so, a minor penalty (delay of game) will be assessed. 
    10. Body Checking/Head Contact (for clarification purposes): Body Checking and Contact with the Head is NOT permitted. Indirect contact is allowed. No direct board contact is allowed. A double-minor penalty will be assessed for deliberate body checking and roughing - head contact (including grabbing/punching a cage).
      Contact with Goalies: Absolutely no contact with the goalie. Stay out of the crease. A minor penalty will be assessed.
    11. Balance of Game Ejections - Any Player receiving three (3) Minor penalties, two (2) double-minor infractions
      or any combination of three (3) penalties
      (of any duration) in one game will receive an automatic Balance of Game penalty.
    12. Stick Measurements: Teams are NOT allowed to request the measurement of any stick during tournament games. If they feel any dangerous equipment is being used, they may point it out to the game officials who could then use their discretion to correct the situation.  
    13. In the spirit of respect, sportsmanship, and serving as a positive role model, we expect participants to refrain from altercations and behaviour that seen as contrary to the teachings of Islam and principles of fair play.  As such, the Crescent Classic Committee and tournament officials reserve the right to eject any player or team from the tournament resulting from unsportsmanlike play. Anyone who is assessed a major or misconduct penalty, will be expelled for the balance of the tournament. The following fines will be deducted from the $100 deposit: 
      1. Game Misconduct - $20 and/or 1 game suspension
      2. Gross Misconduct - $40 and/or 2 game suspension
      3. Fighting - $50 + Indefinite Suspension
         
  6. Fair Play: If one team goes up by 5 goals, the trailing team will be allowed to play a 5th skater. If the trailing team reduces the deficit to 3 goals, play will return to 4 on 4.
  7. Overtime-Shootout: An Overtime-Shootout will be played in all games, if regulation time produces a tie.  
    1. A sudden-death shootout will take place with one player from each team taking shots simultaneously (2 refs) or alternately (1 ref).  
    2. If the shootout continues, the players who have shot must go to their penalty box. 
    3. Repeat step above until no skater remains that has not yet participated from either team. In the event that one team runs out of players, they will work in reverse order selecting the player that has most recently shot to participate next. Teams will continue in this shooting order as such until a winner is declared.  
  8. Bracket Format: The result of each game will lead to match-ups for subsequent rounds.
  9. Round Robin Format: Standings will be based on points: two (2) points for a win, one (1) point for a OT Loss, and zero (0) points for a regulation loss.  
    1. Tie-Breaker, Round Robin: If tied in points, standings (seedings) will be determined based on the following order:  
  1. The team with the most wins in round robin play. 
  2. The head to head result involving the teams tied (two-way ties only).  
  3. The team with the lowest number of penalty minutes.  
  4. The team with the lowest number of goals against
  5. Coin toss by the tournament coordinator or a designated representative.  

Captain’s Responsibilities 

  1. This tournament is designed to be a FUN yet COMPETITIVE event for the players participating. Please keep that in mind at all times!  
  2. Captains are responsible for all team fees and deposits. 
  3. Captains must submit roster 48 hours prior to the start of the tournament including: Player Jersey Number, Player Name, Date of Birth, Position (F, D or G) and Shooting Hand. Printed roster and jersey numbers should be checked by all players at the sign-in table. If a game is played with incorrect jersey numbers - $5 fine per offending player.
  4. Captains, or a team representitive, will be required to check in 30 minutes before the 1st game for a brief meeting.
    A fine of $20 will be applied, if a team representative is not present. A team representative will then be required to check-in with the tournament convenor before each subsequent game. 
  5. Captains are responsible for explaining to their players the Rules and Regulations of the tournament, including any discipline and fines which may occur. Each player must sign a Waiver and Conduct Agreement before playing in a game.
  6. Captains understand that if disciplinary actions is required, all fines will be taken out of the Conduct and Jersey Deposit. The remainder of the deposit will be Electronically Transfered within a week after the tournament.
  7. Recreational Division Captains must ensure that all players on their team are at the Beginner to Low-Intermediate skill level. If a player's skill level is higher than this, they should play in way that is fair (more passing than scoring, less aggressive on defence, etc.)
  8. Team Captains must ensure that all players on their team receive fair playing time. To that end, each shift should be limited to 1 minute in length. 
  9. Team Captains are responsible for the conduct and supervision of all of their teams’ participants at all times. No shooting, stickhandling, or passing of any objects is permitted anywhere in the facility other than the ice surfaces!  
  10. Team Captains MUST notify tournament or arena staff of any pre-existing damage to dressing rooms BEFORE they go onto the ice for their games. Teams will be held financially responsible for any damage caused to rooms which have not been pointed out before their game. 

General & Administrative Rules  

  1. All players MUST be of the Islamic Faith. Exceptions could be made on a case by case basis.
  2. Maximum roster size of 10 skaters + Goalie.  
  3. No player may play for more than one team in the tournament.  
  4. No player under the age of 18 may participate in even one game without permission from the tournament committee, and an Underage Waiver Form signed by his/her legal guardian submitted to the tournament committee  
  5. Teams will be provided with a set of jerseys. $100 deposit will be returned when all jerseys are given back to the tournament committee.  
  6. Ice-conditions and ice-flood decisions will be made solely at the discretion of tournament Referees, Crescent Classic Committee or Off-Ice Officials. 
  7. Absolutely NO PROFANITY or abuse of officials will be tolerated. Contravention of this rule will result in expulsion from the tournament. 
  8. Referee’s Decisions: All referee’s decisions are final and may not be appealed. A hearing may be allowed if disciplinary action is involved.
  9. The ruling of the Crescent Classic Committee and tournament officials on disciplinary action is final. If a captain or player wishes to appeal a decision, a fee of $50 will be required. An independent, knowledgeable party will hear the appeal at a later date. 
  10. Absolutely NO alcoholic beverages or “tailgating” is permitted on ANY Canlan Ice Sports property.  
  11. Team Dressing Rooms: Teams will be given a dressing room for the duration of the round robin - changes may be necessary for playoffs. Teams are responsible for their own lock to the dressing room door. No one, other than players and coaches are allowed in the dressing rooms and the hallways leading to the dressing rooms before, during and after games. Guests must view games from the restaurant or viewing areas. Please respect this rule and notify your players and supporters that this will be enforced and their co-operation is appreciated. 
  12. Teams should also read and understand the building rules and regulations that can be found on the Canlan Ice Sports website at www.icesports.com 
  13. Crescent Classic Tournaments reserves the right to change or alter these rules at any time without prior notice in order to act in the best interests of the tournament.
